 We purchased our first Pomeranian in Germany in 1958 and have been in love with this breed ever since. Along with our love for Pomeranians, we also showed many Brittanys to their championships and our stock was always consistent winners in field trials, earning their dual titles. From our background in the sporting breed we looked for this type of soundness and smooth reaching gait in our Pomeranians.
We also have a background in horse breeding that has helped us with general knowledge we have been able to apply to our Pomeranian breeding program. We owned several nationally known Paint and Quarter horses that we have campaigned which included:
- Ms. Connie Kieffer, AQHA Superior halter mare
- Fanci Tradition, 1992 & 1994 APHA top 10 at the World show with 155 halter points
- Major Endeavor, APHA leading the world in yearling stallions
- Doc’s Magnum AQHA (NCHA) Cutting futurity and Maturity winner
- My Top Sister, AQHA with an ROM in western pleasure plus others point earners that we showed.
From our extensive background in horses, we learned that top breeders in the horse industry consider the mare contributing 75 to 85 percent towards the quality of their babies. So based on applying what we learned from horse breeding, we have come to believe that the quality of the Pomeranian female is probably more important that the right sire to meet the long-term goal of improving the breed. With this in mind, we have always used our best show quality Pomeranian females in our breeding program.
We do not believe in making excuses for any stock that does not have overall quality, and we never keep anything in our breeding program that has major faults, no matter what the bloodlines. All our stock has been veterinary checked before they are placed in our breeding program. We have been selective bring in outside bloodlines to cross back into our stock so that we don’t produce black skin disease, and other genetic problems.
When you see a Bi-Mar Pomeranian, several features will stand out. We breed for a certain type with high ears, short back and pretty faces along with double coats and of course, they have to be able to move correctly with a far reaching gait.
In our breeding program, we try to keep our females and males comparable in size, which is between 4 ½ to 5 ½ lbs. Each litter we produce is our plan for future puppies that will develop into champions. We take great pride in what we have been producing here at Bi-Mar Pomeranians and to date we have bred over 150 champions which include: Best in Show, National and Regional Pomeranian specialties and Toy Group 1st winners.
An excellent example of what we try to consistently produce would be Ch. Bi-Mar’s Sundance Kid – a breeder/owner/handled Best in Show dog that ended up with 4 Best in Shows, 4 Best in Show specialties and 21 Toy Group 1st in his career and has passed his quality down in his get.
Our dogs are well represented in today’s stiff competition. Our black puppy male, Ch. Bi-Mar’s Country Jazz was Best of Winners and Best Puppy at the 2003 American Pomeranian Specialty under noted toy judge, Fred Bassett, and finished undefeated under 5 different judges. Ch. Bi-Mar’s Amazing Grace Red Baron finished with 4 majors including both majors at the 2004 Pomeranian Club of Greater Des Moines combined specialties. Both Ch. Bi-Mar's All That Jazz and Ch. Bi-Mar's Country Jazz are group winners. Ch. Bi-Mar's Zorro finished from the classes going Best of Breed over the number 1 bitch and number 2 male in the US.
So you can see, based on the dogs we have competed with in the past, and are competing with now, that our goal to continually improve this breed is one that we feel we are accomplishing. |
